Abus Locks - Which Are The Most Excellent Abus Bike Locks

By Larry Underwood

If you've ever worried about having your bike be thieved, you might be wondering just what the best Abus locks are, and which type of padlock you can purchase to help keep your bike from walking off. You require one sort of lock to lock a home, and a similar, but somewhat different type of lock to lock your car. However to lock a bike up is quite another story, because a bike doesn't have a door to lock, as do automobiles and houses. Rather a bike is exposed. It's just out there. Anyone that wants could pick it off and take it away, or simpler yet, ride away on it, if you leave it unattended.

Since bikes are so much different than other things which can be locked, they need a different type of locking mechanism. This system has a padlock specially engineered for chaining bikes. You could buy a regular chain and a padlock, and utilize this to chain up your bike tires, but there are also specialized bike locking options. For example, there are Abus cable locks. What is a cable lock? A cable lock is a short cable with a special device on each end that locks together. To secure your motorcycle, you do a lot like you would do should you be chaining it with a chain and padlock, but in this case, you simply wrap the cable around the bike wheels and body, and then around the bike rack or pole before snapping it shut till you feel that it has locked.

A different sort of motorbike lock is the U-lock. These locks are a bit like giant padlocks, but designed with a loop large enough to fit around the bicycle tyre or frame and also a spoke on the bicycle rack. Even if you only lock the tyre to the frame, you can at least prevent folks from riding it off, as the wheel will not be able to turn.

Abus bike locks come in many forms. There are some that open up with a key. While others are Abus combination locks, locks that you've to enter in your combination code to make the lock open. What sort of lock is best for you depends what sort of person you are. Should you sometimes forget or misplace your key, but never forget information, the combination lock might be a good answer. However if you easily forget codes and combination patterns, a standard key lock may well be a better option.

Try not to forget either one, however, because whilst combination locks can be reset, you must know the old combination to change it. This Abus locks reset combination feature is to ensure security so that others cannot just reset the lock and rob what you have under lock and key. If you fail to remember the very first combination code, however, then you are in trouble, and might need to contact someone who has experience picking locks. If you have misplaced a key it can be just as tough to find a solution to your problem, and once again, you may need to call a professional locksmith. You could order new keys if you have the key code. However this information cannot be located on the padlock itself. This is yet another security feature of Abus locks key replacement, so that thieves cannot order a key to break your lock and steal your motorbike. The code to order a new key might be on information you received at the time of original purchase.
