Go for Gold Instead of Tungsten

By Chad Stevenson

Most people are familiar with that unattractive green tinge that can be found left over on the skin when inexpensive jewelry is taken off. Jewelry made of copper and other cheaper metals can leave dark marks on the skin after a long day of wear. For many reasons, sometimes it's worth it to spend more on more expensive jewelry. To get real quality, there are many choices of great metals, like gold, and then there are worse options like tungsten, and all are available for buyers.

With so many available options and so many jewelry companies like Tiffany & Co. and Kay, it can sometimes be overwhelming to consider where to begin. According to tradition, silver and gold are old-fashioned metals that have been used for decades. Some less traditional but equally popular metals are platinum and titanium. Nontraditional jewelry options are wood and leather jewelry and they're becoming more and more popular.

Although the highest quality metals cost are more expensive, their cost is oftentimes worth it. Classic gold metals look great with popular diamonds and come in varying carats. While titanium can also be costly, it is the hardest metal, reducing the risk of damage. It is also hypo-allergenic, meaning no risk of allergic reaction. The pure looking platinum is very popular and long lasting, meaning will remain beautiful forever.

When choosing jewelry, its best to avoid the choices with less quality. Copper and nickel metals can often leave unattractive marks on the skin and are more likely to cause an allergic reaction. Triton tungsten is a metal that can be scratched more easily and if the wearer is not careful can shatter. If a tungsten ring accidentally falls on a hard enough surface it can be destroyed.

If you're looking to purchase jewelry it's important to buy a quality product that is meant to last. The best metals are beautiful and reduce the risk of unsightly marks, damage, scratches, and allergic reaction.
