Unique Bar Mitzvah Invitations - Thinking Out Of the Box

By Gabrielle Millington

In the light of so many events, it is easy for people to forget about a Bar Mitzvah invitation that you might have sent them. In order to grab their attention, you want your invites to have a unique flavor, something that they won't forget easily. If you have a hard time figuring how to make such unique Bar Mitzvah invitations, think of them as gifts that you are giving to your friends.

Most of the ideas that you will come about have already been tried and used many times. They are no more unique. To get something really different, stop thinking of invitations as a piece of glossy and thick paper with a few words and designs on it. Think of it as a memento that your near and dear ones receive even before they attend your event.

If you want to set your Jewish invitations apart, think away from the usual rectangular templates that you find everywhere. Why not go for a triangle, or an elliptical invitation or even a circular one? You might like all of these or none of these, but the point is to do something out of the box. Will your invitation design surprise people and give them something pleasant that they did not expect from an invitation?

Photos on Jewish invitations are also not something new. They are used on so many invitations. Although they are not boring, they do not exactly leap out at you. What you want is a way to make those photos stand out and grab people's attention. If you find yourself out of ideas for making the best use of photos, here are some ideas that you can try.

These are two photos on top of each other. You see a different photo from each angle. This has been used for many years for trademarks and other toys, but they will be mighty effective for unique Bar Mitzvah invitations. The fact that not many have tried it for invitations for a religious event such as this makes it even more uncommon. Once you try it, you won't stop loving it.

There are other ways to make good use of photos. For example, you can use folded invitations that open to show a 3D photo of the Bar going through the Mitzvah. If you have seen 3D palaces made of paper when you open a book, you know how this works. Get somebody creative to make such invitations.

Collaging is also a popular photo displaying technique. Since a Bar Mitzvah is a religious occasion, collaging might be considered to be too casual and funky. However, you can create a minimal collage by using fewer photographs. They would still make a different. More importantly, it will catch the eye of the viewer.

You will not be comfortable with all the ideas presented above for unique Bar Mitzvah invitations. However, they can get you thinking and give you a few new ideas to boot. Do not hesitate to present these to any invitation designer that you hire.
