Creative Visualizations

By Kylie Dean

Visualization helps you identify your goals and achieve them. Famous athletes practice visualization before an important event. It both sets you on a track to achieve what you want and motivates you to accomplish it. We are all already visualizing all of the time.

When you buy groceries you have an image of yourself successfully completing that errand. You have a split second visualization of what the completion of that task will mean. A full fridge is your reward. You quickly fill in the gaps for what it takes you help you reach that goal. It only took a second and very little work, but you visualized what you wanted and made it happen. Visualization works for both these tiny tasks and for great big things as well. Visualization helps you imagine what you really want and helps you make it for yourself.

Before you can effectively practice visualization you have to have a clear idea of what you want. Small or large, you need a clear image of your desire. You can't have a clear picture in your mind of a general idea of what you want.

Prepare yourself for effective visualization. When you have a positive attitude and are relaxed, you are primed to visualize what you really want. To calm yourself, focus on your breathing. Close your eyes and breathe in...then out. Work to push away any thoughts that come into your mind and try hard to completely clear your mind.

After you have relaxed and cleared your mind, you can begin to visualize that dream you just defined. In your mind, begin to go through every aspect of your dream. What exactly would it mean to reach your goal? Go through each of your five senses and picture yourself achieving that dream. Close your eyes and start to feel what it would be like. Hear the sounds that you would hear. Feel the temperature on your skin. Taste the tastes. Once you've set the stage, finally see yourself there. Visualize yourself right into the middle of that dream of yours. Then really feel what it would be like to achieve that dream.

Using visualization renews your commitment to your dream. It motivates you to work harder for your goal and it helps you to see yourself achieving it, making it feel more attainable. You should practice visualization every day for at least 15 minutes to have it really take an effect on you.

Feeling the feelings attached to that ambition is an important part of visualization. Let yourself feel all of the emotions you will when you reach that goal. What are all of the feelings you would have? Feel them all right now. This helps you connect even more to that dream.

Believe in yourself and your dream. You have a clear image of what you really want. Every day you're focusing on it and how you feel when you reach it. Now believe yourself. Believe that it's not only possible but that it's going to happen. When you focus your energy on this thing that is important to you and know that it is coming, you can create it.
