How long do you expect to be on your diet for?
If you need to lose some weight then please pause for a second and consider how long it took you to put on the weight you want to lose, was it a year, a few years, a decade? As it took so long to put on then why do so many people think it will only take a few weeks to shift and then get disappointed when they realize the truth? The hyped up advertising that is used to try and flog overpriced diets is more than likely the cause for that misconception.
The claims used to be a lot worse, particularly on the internet which up to even a year or so ago was littered with dubious claims by people trying to get you to buy their diets, but they still give the impression that dieting is fast and easy. If you want to lose weight then you need to do it in a slow and controlled manner so you can get consistent results, which means you will only realistically lose 2 pounds per week maximum. That means if you need to lose a stone in weight expect it to take 8 weeks or so, and if you need to lose multiple stones then multiply that 8 weeks by the appropriate amount to get your estimated diet time, then add on a few weeks of leeway too!
I am sure some of you reading this are going to be disappointed to learn that your diet could last years if you have a lot of weight to lose, but at least you have realistic expectations now so won't be disappointed when you don't lose 7lbs in your first week and then crash off the diet. To get started on the path to your ideal weight then you really need a good system to follow, one system that comes highly recommended is the Diet Solution Program which will tell you exactly what you need to do, then you need the motivation to do what it asks you to do.
If you need a little extra motivation then give yourself some goals to work towards and reward yourself when you reach them. So say you need to lose 3 stone then give yourself a reward when you have lost 0.5 stone, 1 stone, 2 stone and then 3 stone. That gives you something to work towards so the whole goal is not too daunting, and it means when you do get your reward it will spur you on to keep pushing and get the next one.
You can really indulge yourself if you give yourself some pampering as your gift, and take some time away from your diet. You could arrange to have a romantic weekend away with your partner maybe? Or just go and get yourself a massage and some other treatments at a spa? Then while you are there you can have a few naughty treats that aren't allowed on your diet. By allowing yourself a few treats as a reward for hitting your goal then it makes it that much easier to resist those treats when you are back on your diet.
