The Pride and Poise Oakland Raiders

By Randy Walsh

Coming from the Western Division of American Football, the proud bearers of the Raiders jacket is the unstoppable team based in Oakland, California. In 1960, the Raiders began play in the American Football League (AFL) and in 1970, they joined the NFL in the AFLâ€"NFL merger.

The Raiders were founded in 1960.Its name was derived through a name the team contest held by the Oakland Tribune, and the winner was the Oakland Señors. After a few weeks of being the butt of local jokes (and accusations that the contest was fixed, as Chet Soda was fairly well known within the Oakland business community for calling his acquaintances señor), the fledgling team (and its owners) changed the team's name nine days later to the Oakland Raiders, which had finished third in the naming contest.

The Raiders’ fortunes declined in 1986.Owner of Oakland Raiders, Al Davis began to seek a new, more modern stadium away from the Coliseum. The Coliseum was aging and still lacked the luxury suites and other amenities that Davis was promised when he moved the Raiders to Los Angeles, In addition to sharing the venue with the USC Trojans. The Coliseum finally had 95,000 seats and was rarely able to fill all of them even in the Raiders' best years, and so most Raiders home games were blacked out on television.

Famous of their slogans such as Pride and Poise, Commitment to Excellence, and Just Win, Babyâ€"all of which are registered trademarks of the team are the Oakland Raiders .Former head coach Tom Cable purportedly started using a slogan of his own, Just cut it loose In 2010 .Likewise, the original sports jacket was black and gold, while the helmet was black with a white stripe and with no logo on it.Reportedly a rendition of actor Randolph Scott the now-familiar team emblem of a pirate (or raider) wearing a football helmet was created.

Oakland Raiders have a good standing and history in football. They remain as the only raiders that kept the heated race for the NFL jacket going .
