The Relationship Between Indians And Gold

By Jack Wogan

If in many countries gold has had a huge influence on customs and traditions, in India it is the culture and civilization that influenced the population's appetite for this precious metal. It played a huge role in shaping what this country is today and the population love for what is pure and precious. The high intrinsic value and the symbolism are taken to extreme in many cases in this country as Indians cannot even imagine their lives without this metal. It is connected with everything that has to do with culture, traditions, religion and customs.

The Hindu mythology is one of the sources which can explain the relationship between Indian investors and gold. This mystical mythology blends reality with surreal. Since Indians are very appreciative of their roots they still purchase gold for many other reasons excepting the fact that it is a tool that offers them financial security. Things like belief, tradition, wealth and mysticism are some of the most important motives they buy this metal.

Modern investors in this country do love gold because of what it stands for, but they also appreciate it as a means to get rich. Many of them think like other investors from other parts of the world and choose it because it has an attractive price that continues to go up all the time and because it represents a hard asset that can secure their wealth.

In spite of the fact that the Indians are still very poor each family owns gold. This precious metal is passed on from generation to generation as jewelry pieces which makes it even more appreciated. Due to the concepts of the Hindu mythology it represents more than a tool to make money. Its purity emphasized for century makes it adored which is why most Indians consider it part of their lives and lifestyle.

Women in India love to wear gold jewellery as much as they love to adorn idols with it. Wearing these jewels is part of their tradition and men have a moral obligation to offer their wives presents like these as a proof of their love. If we were to analyze where it all started we should go way back to the golden egg. This egg is believed to be the one that gave birth to Brahma which is the Creator of all.
